On March 18, 2000, the first benefit concert was held at the Central Church of the Nazarene in San Jose.
A wonderfully peaceful and relaxing set of musical pieces was performed by individuals who each had a unique connection to Missy.
These were:
- Julie Giacobassi, English hornist for the San Francisco Symphony, with whom Missy had studied English horn for two years.
- Diane Wyant, English hornist for the Santa Cruz Symphony, with whom Missy had studied oboe and English horn for seven years.
- Leo Eylar, Missy's CYS Orchestra conductor for five years.
- Peter Hilliard, Missy's TKA Orchestra conductor for two years.
- Francesca Anderson, Missy's CYS Wind coach for five years.
- Paul F. Page, composer and pianist, who composed Melissa's Song after he heard of Missy's death.
- Natalie Haas, violist who played with Missy in the CYS Orchestra.
- Jennifer Cass, harpist, who joined Francesca for this performance.
- Tim Dent, Santa Cruz Symphony marimba player, who joined this performance at Diane's request.
- Dmitry Cogan, piano, who joined at the request of Leo Eylar.
The program was a stunning success and included the following beautiful pieces:
- Arthur's Harp by Denton for flute and harp
- Concerto in A Major by Bach for oboe d'amore
- Solo de Concert by Paladilhe for oboe and piano
- Prelude No. 2 by Gershwin for violin, viola and piano
- Trio in Bb Major, Op. 99 by Schubert for violin, viola and piano
- Dream of the Cherry Blossom by Abe for marimba
- Three Gnossiennes by Hilliard for piano
- Tristesse by Page for oboe, flute and piano
